8.3.2 – Cleaning Standards

There are several guidelines and checklists we use to ensure The Edge is cleaned to our standards. The Edge Porter Schedule and Periodic shows the weekly hours by role, area, frequency per year, etc.

You use this sheet to:

  • Guide the walk-throughs taking place multiple times per day
  • Audit and sign off on the work done by the porters both during the day as well as the overnight shift
  • Monitor the work being done by the porters throughout the day, giving feedback and direction as necessary

Overnight

The following are daily expectations, except where notated.

Locker Rooms

  • Clean and scrub showers
  • Wipe doors
  • Sweep/vacuum floor surfaces
  • Clean counters, sinks, and bright work
  • Wipe all benches
  • Wet mop all hard floor surfaces
  • Clean mirrors
  • Maintain all tile wall surfaces to be free of marks and dirt
  • Wipe all partitions and doors
  • Empty trash and replace liner, tucked in
  • Monday, Wednesday, and Friday clean under mats
  • Sunday clean mats in shower

Group X and Spin Rooms

  • Empty trash, replace liner and tuck in
  • Dust mop and vacuum floors
  • Wet mop and tack rag floor
  • Check and clean mirrors and doors
  • Wash spin bikes

Exercise Floor

  • Vacuum/dust mop the floor
  • Empty trash, replace and tuck in liner
  • Monday and Wednesday wash front half of rubber floor
  • Tuesday and Thursday was rear half of rubber floor
  • Friday, Saturday, and Sunday spot mop rubber
  • Vacuum turf

Cardio

  • Dust and wash all treadmills, arc trainers, elliptical, stair steppers/masters
  • Vacuum under treadmills Monday, Wednesday, and Friday

Entrance, Lobby and Walkways

  • Empty trash, replace liner and tuck in. Do not empty recycle
  • Dust mop and vacuum floors
  • Wash all floors
  • Clean glass entrance doors in and out
  • Vacuum entrance mats

Offices

  • Empty trash, replace liner and tuck in
  • Dust mop and vacuum floors
  • Wash all floors
  • Clean glass entrance doors in and out
  • Disinfect tuft every first Sunday of the month 

Daily

Daily standards are also essential. The following should happen during the day at The Edge:

Locker Rooms – Male and Female

  • Clean counters, sinks, pipes, urinals, toilets, and mirrors
  • Spray and wipe partitions, sills, ledges, and limonite
  • Fill soap, hand towel and paper dispensers
  • Mop floor and put up wet floor signs
  • Remove hair and soap from showers, wipe doors
  • Push trash down; empty if ¾ full, replace and tuck in liner
  • Check and clean scuff marks from wood panels

Daily standards are also essential. The following should happen during the day at The Edge:

Spin Room – Male

  • Check and clean cardio cup holders
  • Check and clean equipment to remove dirt and sweat
  • Push trash down; empty if ¾ full, replace and tuck in liner
  • Maintain floors to keep a clean appearance
  • Check and fill spray bottles and dispensers
  • Spray and wipe trash cans; check and clean scuff marks from wood panels

Tanning Booth – Female

  • Clean walls, floor, mirrors, ledges, and remove paper and misc items from under gratting
  • Spray and wipe trash cans
  • Check and fill spray bottles and dispensers

Turf – Male

  • Maintain floors to keep a clean appearance
  • Put accessories away

Group X 1 – Female

  • Clean mirrors
  • Clean and put mats and equipment away
  • Maintain floors to keep a clean appearance
  • Check and fill spray bottles and dispensers
  • Push trash down; empty if ¾ full, replace and tuck in liner

Free Weight – Male

  • Rack weights per size up to 45lbs
  • Clean and arrange benches and put away accessories
  • Maintain floors to keep a clean appearance
  • Clean water fountain, mirrors, sills, and ledges
  • Check and fill spray bottles and dispensers
  • Push trash down; empty if ¾ full, replace and tuck in liner

Cardio, Front Section – Female

  • Check and clean cardio cup holders
  • Check and clean equipment to remove dirt and sweat
  • Push trash down; empty if ¾ full, replace and tuck in liner
  • Maintain floors to keep a clean appearance
  • Check and fill spray bottles and dispensers
  • Spray and wipe trash cans; check and clean scuff marks from wood panels

Cardio, Rear Section – Male

  • Check and clean cardio cup holders
  • Check and clean equipment to remove dirt and sweat
  • Push trash down; empty if ¾ full, replace and tuck in liner
  • Maintain floors to keep a clean appearance
  • Check and fill spray bottles and dispensers
  • Spray and wipe trash cans; check and clean scuff marks from wood panels

Entrance/Lobby/Walkways/Sales Area – Female

  • Clean entrance doors, glass, wipe edges
  • Vacuum lobby mats
  • Dust mop floor and walkway
  • Spot mop where needed and put up wet floor signs
  • Push trash down; empty if ¾ full, replace and tuck in liner
  • Spray and wipe tables and chairs, arrange and order
  • Spray and wipe trash cans; check and clean scuff marks from wood panels
  • Spray and wipe water fountain, and clean rubber and spout area also

Shake Bar Evaluation

The Shake Bar requires monitoring of cleanliness. Use the following as a guideline when performing an evaluation.

Sinks

  • Are the sinks clean? No dirt ring?
  • Is the 3rd sink filled with sanitizer?
  • Is the sanitizer at the correct parts per million?

Blenders

  • Are the blenders clean?
  • Are they in good working order?
  • Are they free of sticky spots and not cloudy?

Counters

  • Are the counters free of clutter?
  • Is the surface of the counters clean? No sticky spots?
  • Are the powder bins clean and in working order?
  • Is the syrup area clean? Holders, pumps, and bottles?
  • Does the club have a measuring cup?
  • Does the club have a toothbrush to clean the powder bins?
  • Are all bins labeled correctly and look clean?

Refrigerators and Freezers

  • Is the stainless steel shiny and clean?
  • Are the gaskets free of debris?
  • Are the air filters cleaned and free of dust?
  • Is the inside of the refrigerator free of employee food?
  • Is the inside door of the ice machine clean?
  • Is the ice scoop clean and in the proper area?

Employee

  • Is the employee in proper uniform?
  • Does the employee seem friendly, approachable, smiling?
  • Was the water measured with the measuring cup?
  • Was the powder scooped correctly?
  • Are the syrups being used?
  • Are the fruits being prepped correctly?
  • Are the shakes coming out to 20oz and only using one cup?
  • Does the employee understand and practice FIFO?
  • Are they up-selling? Adding glutamine/creatine?
  • Is the employee making eye contact?

Exercise Floor – Female

  • Clean and arrange benches
  • Put away accessories
  • Push trash down; empty if ¾ full, replace and tuck in liner
  • Maintain floors to keep a clean appearance
  • Check and fill spray bottles and dispensers
  • Clean water fountain
  • Spot clean mirrors
  • Spray and wipe trash cans; check and clean scuff marks from wood panels

Edge Kids – Afternoon crew

  • Clean floors
  • Empty trash
  • Vacuum carpet

General

  • Check and clean inside of lockers that do not have a lock
  • Floors must be gum free
  • Toilet paper full roll always on the right, and sliding door closed
  • Never vacuum entry mats when it rains or snows; sweep them off
  • During wet weather and while mopping floors, always put wet floor signs out
  • During winter when salt is being used, substitute Winter Clean for Rain Dance
